As the rain fell down as if it would never stop, the atmosphere at the Château de Compiègne last Sunday morning changed for a few minutes. People started running to a dry place to put on their raincoats, crowds of spectators disappeared to their homes or a bar, and those lucky enough to have a closed car returned to their cars with big smiles. The venue was the forecourt of the Château de Compiègne, just north of Paris, France, and it was the start of the second day of the Rallye des Ancêtres en Picardie, organised by the passionate members of the Club des Teuf Teuf and open to all cars built before 1906.


Described in the past as the French London to Brighton Run, the event has evolved over the years from just a Sunday run to, for the first time in 2022, an entire weekend of touring through the forests around the French city. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, the mostly slow cars crawled through the French countryside, although in total not many kilometres were covered (105 in two days). About 50 teams participated, from eight different countries, and it was the first year with PreWarCar.com as the official partner of the event. Although the programme of the event has changed over the years, the abundance of food, champagne and laughter continued, as did the unpredictable weather at this time of year. We are already looking forward to the first weekend of October next year, when the event is traditionally held, and hope for some extra sunshine then.
