Racing penny farthings at Herne Hill

We regularly come across high wheelers for sale on our online marketplace. The video shows 'the penny farthing bike race' in which 'C.J. Bowtle retains the Challenge Cup for a mile race on the old-fashioned boneshaker'. The source tells us that the race took place in 1928 at one of the oldest cycle tracks in the world, Herne Hill Velodrome in South London. There are some happy faces to be seen after the race. In the years that followed, many more cycle meetings were held on the outdoor banked track, which is in fact still in use.
