The exciting places of Paris

Look at this amazing coloured picture. Doesn't it make you just long to go to Paris? It has it all: the Eiffel Tower, 'classic' cars, a café and most definitely the right atmosphere. What strikes us immediately is the cleanliness of the street, no horse droppings or other rubbish. Perhaps it was cleaned up for the photo or removed when the photo was coloured in.

The location of the photograph is more difficult to determine. We think we have found the street (see google streetview) but a lot has changed in about 110 years (we think the picture was taken in the early 1900s) and now it has become a quiet, somewhat boring street.

Salon Rétromobile 2022

However, there are other locations in Paris that are not boring at all. And we don't mean the Moulin Rouge, which is for another time. No, we are talking about Salon Rétromobile. This year it will be held from 16 to 20 March and will be set up across pavilions 7.2 and 7.3.

Of course we can't wait to make our 'traditional' trip to Paris so the PreWarCar.com & PostWarClassic.com team will also have a stand. We expect an exciting week! More on this later. A bientôt!

Garcia Yannik ist right: It's Rue Dominique / Rue de la Comète. I found a map of 1906 where you can recognize the situation.

Crossroad of "Rue de la Comète" (on the left) and "Rue Saint Dominique". The Tower Eiffel is not on the right place !

Wrong, it's rue de saint dominique 75007, the building on the corner of rue de la Comete is now an Irish pub, and not greatly changed. Fabulous photo, the old plate photos had astonishing resolution for the time.

Forgot to say that the Hôtel du Pelerin on the left has since been renamed to Hôtel Thoumieux, and that the traffic is now one-way and would be coming towards the camera if the photo was taken today.

The picture was taken in the Rue Saint-Dominique in the 7th arrondissement, and still looks very similar today. The clue is in the street-sign on the left, which says Rue de la Comète (although the C is missing in the picture), which runs between Rue Saint-Dominique and Rue de Grenelle.
