Aries CC4S Saloon 1925

Aries CC4S Saloon 1925

Company History

The Ariès was built in Villeneuve de La Garenne and was the initiative of Baron Charles Petiet, who founded the company in 1902.

In its early years, Ariès produced luxury cars where the chauffeur and the important/wealthy passengers sat separately. Later, in 1910, Ariès began producing commercial vehicles to supply the army with building materials and other equipment.

In 1920, Ariès decided to venture into the racing world and developed several models. The technology was advanced for its time, featuring, among other innovations, one of the first overhead camshafts.

They built various models, including a 2-seater race car, a 4-seater tourer, and closed-body vehicles. Most were constructed from metal, with only a few made of wood with fabric bodies.

This Ariès CC4S is the only known surviving example with this particular lightweight body by Audineau, built according to the Weymann principle: fabric covering over a light wooden frame.

The Car Today

The Engine

The engine is a 4-cylinder with an overhead camshaft and magneto ignition. It can accommodate 8 spark plugs, providing dual ignition for each cylinder. These engines were also used in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The displacement is 1130cc, producing 40hp with 4 spark plugs. With 8 spark plugs and dual ignition, output can increase to 55hp.

The engine has been completely disassembled, thoroughly inspected, and rebuilt.

History of This Car

This Ariès was originally purchased in France by an Italian, who began the restoration. Work started with the basics but was never completed. A few years later, a Dutch enthusiast, already owning two Ariès cars, bought it. Due to lack of time, he too couldn’t finish the project and eventually sold the car to another Dutchman, who immediately began restoring it.

The Ariès has now been fully restored: the chassis was sandblasted and painted, the woodwork carefully checked and repaired, and the car was completely reupholstered. The interior is stunning, featuring original Art Deco trimmings, ribbons, and tassels!

The entire electrical system has been renewed using single-color, cotton-braided wiring, as was common in the period, giving it an exceptionally authentic look.

Now, this beautifully restored and truly unique 1925 Ariès CC4S is looking for a new owner.
