40284 is the 8th 1,5L produced by the Molsheim factory in December 1926.
Delivered with engine 318 still in the car today. The car is delivered to Wiederkehr (Gangloff) in June 1927. The car is invoiced to Leon Pierron from Bordeaux together with 38375. He is running the Atlantique Automobile garage and delivers Bugatti in Gironde, Lot et Garonne, Mont de Marsan area in Landes.
Monsieur Pierron - very active dealer - can be associated with 30+ Bugatti.
Joseph Darbo (Landes) owned the car from 5.11.1927 and registered 3798-P5 until Jean Jacques Reche bought the car in Bordeaux (Registration 5787-GA3). The registration is unchanged for the next owners. Robert Vezia 1934-35. Henri Vezia 1935. Robert Vezia 1935. Henri Lafuge 1936-1937. Zeycheney is the last known owner from Bordeaux in October 1937.
In the Nordic Bugatti register, we can read that the car was, together with nine other Bugatti cars, exported to UK in 1949 still with the sand in the petrol tank that was put to avoid the car being confiscated by the German forces during WWII.
The British 1980 register adds Jacques Barre in the list of owners. The British old log book that followed the car added :
July 1968 : Paul Foulkes Halbard (Car is blue)
January 1970 : Mrs Valerie Veronica Brookbank
February 1972 : Simon Peter Steer.
Car last restoration (Some woodwork changed - new paint - and overall overhauling) is dated from 1978 on...
Rune Möller bought the car and imported it to Sweden in 1984. After his death in 2009, the car was inherited by his two daughters.
In 2023, the car came back to France and is now available for a new owner.
The car is completely original still wearing its first original bodywork.
