Priced for immediate sale from a world famous collection: a Delahaye two passenger Roadster, 135-S, the top-tier competition variant of the chassis, dressed in coach and original bodywork by Vanden Plas of Brussels. Unique and rare (3) position top. Superior quality and fitment, as it has never had any of the original wooden frame or metalwork replaced!!
The car presents beautifully: paintwork on both body and undercarriage is as-new, and the original chrome is intact as are all dash gauges, door, window and retractable top hardware. The interior upholstery has already been finished and is ready for final installation, as is the original, complete framework for the convertible top survives with the car as does the original dashboard.
Read and compare the car with several survey reports done by known and recognized Delahaye experts at the time of its entry into the U.S. and a side by side point by point comparative report done as it sat next to a well known collectors sister car. Vetted against original factory issued specifications from the period.
Changing a retired competition chassis like this, to a street classic, was standard practice for Delahaye owners of the era — chassis went to independent coach-builders to be clothed to order, once no longer competitive. It was common to give it a second life as an elegant road car. The practice grew even more common after the war, steep French taxes on large-engined cars made refitting an existing chassis far more practical than buying new.
We are able to provide completion onsite of the the last details left to do as part of a sale if desired. We are qualified restoration experts providing our services for the principle collection for over 30 years.
