Charming and increasingly rare 1936 Morris 12/4 Sliding Head Saloon that has benefitted from extensive mechanical restoration while retaining its period character. Finished in an attractive blue and black colour scheme, this matching numbers example has had just three former keepers from new and has remained with its current owner since March 2011.

First registered in December 1936, the Morris is powered by its 1,465cc engine, coupled with the desirable optional four-speed gearbox. Interestingly, the V5C records the engine capacity as 1,550cc, an administrative error that occurred when the details were transferred from the original buff logbook.

The engine has been comprehensively refreshed with a rebore to +60 thou, while replacement bearings, crankshaft and oil pump were sourced from a superior donor engine. Additional work includes a new timing chain and new core plugs, ensuring the engine has a solid mechanical foundation. The clutch has also been overhauled with a new cork clutch plate, housing and thrust bearing.

The suspension has received new kingpins together with new shackle pins and bushes throughout the spring assemblies, while the steering box has been adjusted and re-shimmed to improve the driving experience. The transmission has also been refurbished with new universal joints and a rebuilt prop shaft.

The braking system has seen extensive attention, including a new master cylinder, refurbished wheel cylinders, new brake linings and new flexible brake hoses. The cooling system has been similarly improved with a re-cored radiator and new hoses.

A new wiring loom has been fitted throughout, incorporating discreet flashing indicators and LED bulbs within the original trafficators for improved safety. The headlamps have also been upgraded to a more modern specification while maintaining the car's traditional appearance.

All five wire wheels have been sandblasted and powder coated before being fitted with new tyres and inner tubes. A new exhaust system was also installed, although the flexible section has since received a recent repair.

The vendor advises that approximately 7,000 miles have been covered since the restoration work was completed, with the car having been garaged throughout their ownership.

With its low ownership, matching numbers engine, extensive mechanical refurbishment and handsome pre-war styling, this Morris 12/4 represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire an increasingly scarce British saloon that is ready to be enjoyed, lightly recommissioned or further cherished by its next custodian.
