1935 Aston Martin MkII Long Chassis Tourer
This 1935 Mark II long chassis four-seater is chassis number B5/ 547/ L and has a well-documented ownership record from new that has taken it from Britain to California and Germany and home again, by way of a class win at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Cared for by Ecurie Bertelli since 2001 and running on its original but strengthened rebuilt engine, it is a genuine matching-numbers car of lovely patina and usability.
First owned by LF Pulham of London in 1936, original works service records survive from as early as February 1937 and show it to have been well cared for and in regular use. After several British owners prior to WWII and beyond, it was exported to California in the early 1950s. Here, it became the pride and joy of marque devotee Michael de Soto, who restored it and later won its class in many concours, including the 1977 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
By the mid-1980s it was back on European soil, enjoyed by German collector Andreas Rossbach, who entered it in the Liebenstein Castle event of 1987. In 2001 it returned to British shores and its current owner, who has enjoyed it for the last 25 years. Under his careful stewardship, it has undergone an engine rebuild at Ecurie Bertelli who strengthened the original block and so retain it.
This is a genuinely usable pre-war Aston Martins and, being a long chassis variant, it offers greater legroom and a more relaxed gait than the short chassis version. It carries a gentle patina, presented in brown with dark red leather and is in full working order right down to the fuel gauge. It is well-suited to a continental rally or a long tour and comes with a history file that documents the current ownership in meticulous detail.
