ALVIS SPEED 25 OPEN TOURER by CROSS AND ELLIS

According to the Alvis factory records, this car was sold new in April 1937 to an owner in Southport, UK. It was finished in dark green with the wings painted in the same colour as the body as it still is. The car comes with a lovely history file, complete with old correspondence, magazine articles and period photographs.

After having been in long-term family ownership, it was imported into Holland from Scotland in 1977. The second owner, a former President of the Dutch Alvis Owners Club, had the car restored in 1977.

In 1999, this Alvis was acquired by its third owner, who sold the car to its next custodian in 2004. In 2001, the car was awarded First in Class at the prestigious Paleis Het Loo Concours d’Elegance. The previous owner maintained the car well but used it sparingly. In 2006, we sold the car to its current owner, on whose behalf we are now delighted to offer it for sale again, twenty years later.

Over the last 25 years, the car has been maintained by a well-known Dutch Alvis specialist. Invoices in the history file document various works carried out over the years, including a cylinder-head rebuild, the fitting of a new stainless-steel exhaust system and regular servicing.

The bodywork and interior remain in very good condition and display a lovely patina. This wonderful and highly original car has a complete ownership history and retains its Matching number engine. A recent test drive confirmed what a delightful car this is. It runs and drives very well and maintains excellent oil pressure.

The car is registered in the Netherlands and comes with a nice history file.

The Alvis Speed 25 is a great and easy car to drive as Alvis has a fully synchronised gearbox for easy gear shifting. The 3 1/2 Litre 6 cylinder engine is powerful and makes for easy driving in modern day traffic.

A pretty and elegant car and a real standout in any circumstance!

The price is an affordable €115.000.-.

Model history

The Alvis Speed 25 Tourer Cross & Ellis is a very rare 4-door convertible. This car is one of only 39 examples ever built, with even fewer surviving today. It is one of the finest cars produced in the 1930s. The Speed 25 has a 3 1/2 litre 6 cilinder engine and an all-synchromesh gearbox combined with independent front suspension plus pneumatic servo assisted brakes give the car excellent pace, roadholding and stopping power. It had also the low-slung chassis that allowed the fitting of sporting and elegant coachwork. All this set Alvis apart from the rest.
