This exceptional 1935 Rover Speed 14 Streamline Coupé embodies British engineering and the stylish elegance of the pre-war era. Only around 380 of the highly sought-after Speed 14 models were built between 1934 and 1936 – making a surviving example all the more rare today.
The elegant aluminium Streamline body, mounted on a traditional ash wood frame, gives the car timeless lines and emphasises the exclusive character of this classic. The coupé is powered by a refined 1,577 cc inline-six engine, which delivers 54 BHP at 4,800 rpm. Combined with the four-speed manual gearbox and selectable freewheel, the Rover offers a driving experience that was remarkably comfortable and confident for its time.
Rover models of this era were regarded as technically extremely advanced. For instance, the Speed 14 came ex-works with sophisticated features such as a central lubrication system for the chassis, an automatic start system and an electric oil level gauge – features that were far ahead of their time. The hydraulically operated drum brakes also underline the high technical standards of this vehicle.
Extensive work and overhauls have been carried out in recent years:
• Complete overhaul of the braking system
• Overhaul of the cylinder head
• Overhaul of the carburettor
• Overhaul of the ignition distributor
• Timing adjustment
• Headlamps modified to comply with Swiss regulations (originals available)
• Central locking nuts re-chromed
• Driver’s side A-pillar rebuilt
• Fuel tank completely rebuilt
• Central lubrication system repaired
Technically, the vehicle is in very good condition. The bodywork shows paintwork damage in various places. There is also collision damage to the rear.
An extremely rare and stylish pre-war classic for collectors and enthusiasts of exclusive British cars.
