1909 Ford Model T

Ford Model T 1905 - 1918
  • 1909 Ford Model T

1909 Ford Model T

INTRODUCTION: Parked over 100 years! Now it is concours restored and is as cute as a kitten. This beautiful early Model T has a very interesting and well-documented history. Mr Camp bought the car new in 1909, he went off to war (World War l that is!) and he sadly paid the ultimate price for our country. His widow parked the car in their clothing business warehouse and it remained undriven until 1973! She was given a notice from the city that all the buildings on her street were being torn down for new development. The owner of Mac Auto Parts, (possibly the largest Model T parts supplier in the country), heard about the car, bought it and unburied it from its 50 year hibernation. He parked it with his collection where it would sit another 30 years! When he passed away his family hired a professional shop to perform a no expense spared restoration in his honor. It sat on display in their showroom front window for 17 more years. We purchased the car and proudly displayed it in our Titanic era car display. It is available now for sale only because we rotate our displays and don't have room to keep them all, although we wish we could!

THE MODEL T LEGACY: The car that would change history, and probably the most noteworthy automobile ever built! It is literally the car that changed how Americans lived. Henry Ford revolutionized the moving assembly line which cut the costs significantly and made owning a car possible for anyone making a nominal paycheck. Cars were not only for the privileged anymore, most all of America could own one now. This led to a vast expansion of infrastructure like roads and service stations. It led to the development of suburbs, people could now drive to work. It also created massive economic growth and personal independence.

15 million Model T Fords were produced from 1908-1927. This one cost $800 new, a home cost about $3,000 and the average pay was 22 cents an hour. Today, this early “brass” car is one of the most sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. The earliest Model T known to exist looks just like this one and sold for ¼ million dollars.

EXTERIOR: At a professional restoration shop it was taken down as far as it could be taken and restored to new or better condition. We have photos documenting the progression. The wooden structure was completely restored and is solid, the doors click shut. The metal body panels and fenders are straight as an arrow with no rust or damage showing. Repainted in one of the 4 original colors available and it is smooth and shiny like glass. Beautiful red with black body lines and cream pinstripe. The convertible top frame and top were restored correctly. The brass trim also adds to the car's beauty, later years reduced the amount of brass and eventually did away with it completely, making the brass cars the most desirable. This one has the correct 2 year only brass radiator, Prestolite gas headlights, kerosene lamps and the optional windshield. The wooden spoke wheels were restored by a specialist and the correct white tires were used. Why were white smooth tires used when roads were often made of dirt? White is the natural color of rubber and tread had not yet been thought of!

INTERIOR: Restored to original specifications. Genuine leather upholstery on the button tufted seats. In the back it has a coarse fiber mat and in front is the correct white rubber mat. The wooden cowl and magneto box are beautifully refinished. It uses a 3 pedal and 1 lever system along with spark and throttle levers to putt putt down the road. The optional speedometer goes up to 60 mph although 42 was top speed.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The correct 4 cylinder motor was professionally rebuilt and produces 20 horsepower. This one features a rare ball carburetor. Everything is correct down to the leather belt!

UNDERSIDE: It was taken down to its very last nut and bolt and completely restored. The chassis components are painted gloss black, the clam shell rear end is polished like glass. It has brakes at the rear wheels and the exhaust is correct down to the insulation wrapped around it. Looking up at the motor it is detailed. The 2 Speed planetary transmission was professionally rebuilt. The rear end was disassembled and rebuilt too.

SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and hired a team of technicians to service the essentials on every car we sell.

CONCLUSION: This important piece of our history has an awesome history of its own! It functions as good as it did in 1909, that fluttering sound out the little tail pipe is almost as cute as the car itself. Wherever you decide to display this cute Model T, it will bring pleasure to all onlookers!

For nearly 30 years, I, Jay Grams, have personally written the highlights for almost every car in our collection. What I provide is my professional opinion based on my experience with these vehicles. However, opinions can vary, and I strongly recommend a personal inspection to form your own view. Our sales team is always available to answer any questions you may have. One great option is to request a personalized walk-around video, where we can showcase the car and share our team's insights. **Our cars are displayed within a museum setting. If you are interested in a specific vehicle, please schedule an appointment with a salesperson to view it. Without an appointment, there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you decide to purchase a car, your admission will be refunded, and you'll receive a one-year museum membership.
