An exceptionally well restored and highly awarded Chrysler 66 Royal Sedan, with only two owners in nearly 97 years.
The present owner acquired the car as a complete and remarkably original example and subsequently carried out a no-expense-spared restoration over many years. The restoration was a total body-off, nut-and-bolt rebuild comprising complete mechanical, structural and cosmetic restoration throughout. More than 6,500 documented hours were invested, in addition to nearly AUD $50,000 in parts, materials, machining, chrome plating and specialist work.
Particular attention was paid to the body restoration. Every panel was properly metal-finished by hand — shrunk, stretched and filed where required — resulting in a body with no filler whatsoever. The photographs testify to the quality and precision of the workmanship. All timber framing and woodwork was remade, carefully following the original grain direction and curves, creating a structure stronger than when new.
The interior retains all of its beautiful Art Deco detailing, original maker’s badges and dealer insignia. Of particular interest is the presence of an original Philco radio, manufactured specifically for Chrysler as an optional extra in 1929. The owner believes this maybe the only one fitted to a Vintage-era car in Australia, and possibly one of the very few remaining worldwide. Remarkably, the radio still functions beautifully today.
Since returning to the road in 2007, the Chrysler has enjoyed considerable concours success. Awards include “Restored Car of the Year”, “Top Car of the Show”, “Best Presented Straight Six”, “Best Presented American Chrysler” and “Best Presented Interior”, in addition to numerous First in Class awards across Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.
Most recently, at Seymour, Victoria in 2024, the car was awarded:
At “Chryslers on the Murray”, judged amongst approximately 1,380 participating cars, the Chrysler was selected First Overall in the “Top Five of the Show”.
Extensive documentation accompanies the car, including restoration records, photographs and award history.
Also available by separate negotiation is a substantial inventory of NOS parts, detailed across five foolscap pages, together with a beautiful fully enclosed dual-axle trailer suitable for interstate transport within Australia.
After nearly two decades of devoted ownership, the time has come for this Chrysler to pass to its next custodian due to changing personal circumstances.
More photos can be provided on request, and I am happy to answer any question on the car.
