Under the leadership of company President Harlow Curtice, Buick emerged from the Great Depression as one of America's premier automobile manufacturers, earning a reputation for refined engineering, handsome styling, and exceptional value. Introduced for 1940, the new Series 50 Super combined the smooth 248-cubic-inch overhead-valve straight-eight with the choice of five elegant body styles, all devoid of running boards, on a 121-inch wheelbase shared with the Series 40 Special.

One of just 4,764 Super Convertible Coupes produced for the model year, the example offered here was assembled at Buick's Flint, Michigan, factory. According to its cowl tag, the car was originally finished in Royal Maroon with a black leather interior. Benefiting from an older cosmetic restoration, it is now attractively presented in a timeless cream exterior complemented by a brown interior and black convertible top.

Power comes from Buick's smooth 248-cubic-inch Dynaflash straight-eight, factory rated at 107 horsepower, paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Completing the car's period-correct appearance are a host of desirable accessories, including amber fog lamps, bumper guards, a driver-side sport lamp, rear fender skirts, and wide whitewall tires.
