Ford introduced a fresh look for 1938 while continuing to build its cars on the proven 112-inch-wheelbase chassis. Buyers could choose between the value-priced Standard Model 82A, which largely retained the previous year's styling, and the more sophisticated DeLuxe Model 81A, distinguished by its streamlined prow-style grille, separate hood louvers, and numerous trim refinements. Inside, the DeLuxe received an updated instrument panel with recessed control knobs, an integrated center-mounted radio speaker, and a more modern appearance. Power came exclusively from Ford's dependable 221-cubic-inch L-head V-8 producing 85 horsepower, paired with the familiar three-speed manual transmission.

The Standard lineup was limited to three body styles, while the DeLuxe range expanded to nine, including the attractive Club Convertible offered here. Unlike the Convertible Coupe with its single-bench-seat cabin augmented by a rumble seat, the Club Convertible featured two full rows of seats and the added practicality of an enclosed luggage compartment. The combination proved especially appealing, making it the most popular open Ford of 1938, with 6,080 examples produced.

Finished in an attractive dark blue with a tan canvas top, this example presents with a handsome period-correct appearance complemented by a tidy brown button-tufted interior. The dashboard showcases Ford's clean, Art Deco-inspired design, featuring multiple auxiliary gauges flanking the speedometer, a center-mounted radio speaker with recessed controls, a banjo-style steering wheel, and an elegant clock incorporated into the glovebox door. Exterior appointments include rear fender skirts, dual windshield wipers, exterior mirrors, amber fog lamps, front and rear bumper guards, chrome hubcaps with trim rings, and wide whitewall tires that complete its classic pre-war presentation.
